HOW WE GOT HERE
1920
Tom Dodd Sr. and Dora Welch started Dodd and Welch Nursey. Shipping bareroot plants to Mount Arbor Nursery in Iowa by rail car.
1928
Tom Dodd Sr. purchased his sister, Dora Welchs portion of the nursery. He changed the name of Dodd and Welch Nursey to Tom Dodd Nursery.
1929-2003
Tom Dodd Sr. and sons grew the nursery and made many changes to keep up with the industry.
1987
John Williams Jr. started working in the Nursery industry when he was11 years of age. He started by helping with his families nursery and quickly became enthralled with the industry. For the next 17 years John worked tirelessly and learned all he could about the industry. He then came to the decision to go into business himself.
2004
On August 13th John Williams Jr. purchased Tom Dodd Nurseries and decided to keep the well known company name. John and his wife Angel are still very active in everyday activities on the nursery.
2015
John purchased the property of Tate Green Houses and Dodd and Dodd property adding acreage to Tom Dodd Nurseries. This property now acts as our production
2017
John purchased the property of Kinny Nursery from The Kinny family, which added 65 more acres to Tom Dodd Nurseries.
2019
John was featured in the Mobile Bay issie of "Semmes: City of New Growth"
2024
Expasions on the nursery continues. We have broken ground on our new shipping dock estimated to be completed by October 2024. This will improve our shipping practices and ensure our customers are getting the best quality material in a fast and effective manner. We have also acquired the former Blackwell Nursery where we are currently in the process of clearing brush and installing sprinkler systems. This will add an additional 56 acers of production space for us to Grow More Happiness!!
TODAY
We work to keep the spirit of Tom Dodd Sr. alive by continuing to peruse new opportunities for Tom Dodd Nurseries to grow. Introducing new practices and innovative equipment to our nurseries.
